This past Sunday at Christ Our Hope Church we began our eight-week study of the Order of Salvation by looking at the Doctrine of Sin. Here are some devotional questions to help you think through and apply this doctrine to your walk with Christ this week.
“You have not yet considered how heavy the weight of sin is.” (Anselm of Canterbury, Cur Deus Homo?)
1. In light of the above quote, what has usually come to mind when you thought about sin?
2. Read Isaiah 6. How did Isaiah respond when he was faced with the holiness of God? Why?
3. What effects are the sins in your life currently having on your relationship with God? With other people? On yourself?
4. Read Romans 5:12-17. What are the results of Adam’s sin? How does this explain evil in the world? How do these effects impact your own heart today?
5. What are the results of Christ’s work? What benefits do they give you today?
6. Why is it important to listen to Scripture rather than yourself? (Hint: see Jeremiah 17:9 and II Timothy 3:16-17)
7. How does remembering God’s grace for sinners help when you are discouraged by sin in your life? (Hint: see Ephesians 2:1-10)
I hope you all have a great week, and I’ll see you Sunday. Next week’s topic: The Doctrine of Election.
