I apologize for not posting this morning, as promised. Here are some questions to help you apply the doctrine of justification:
1. When you read the Bible, what usually comes to mind when you see the word righteous or righteousness? According to Romans 1-3, what is the supreme problem for humanity? (Hint: read 3:20)
2. We learned that justification has two aspects: forgiveness of sins and the imputation of Christ’s righteousness. How does believing (rather than just mentally affirming) that God has forgiven you change the way you relate to Him?
3. Read Colossians 1:13-14. What has Christ done for you, according to this passage? If “redemption” was a term that referred to the Roman slave market, why do you think that Paul chose this word to describe the gospel?
4. Read II Corinthians 5:21. How does this verse show the “imputation” (i.e. crediting, giving in a legal sense) of Christ’s work to you? What are we now in God’s sight?
5. Does it seem presumptuous or even blasphemous to think that in God’s sight you are just as holy as Jesus? Why or why not?
6. Read Romans 5:1-11 again. What would your life look like if you fully embraced the truth that now, because of the Gospel, you have peace with God?
I hope you guys have a great week. Feel free to leave a comment or send me an email if you have any questions. This Sunday: The Doctrine of Adoption.
